This month I’m getting my inspiration from some badass women.
I love a redheaded Canadian, and my first pick is Arlene Dickinson. Arlene is a businesswoman, investor, author, podcaster, and television personality, best known for her role on Dragon’s Den. I recently saw her on a CBC show called The Assembly, where she answered questions from neurodivergent people. She was so honest, and the questions were so thoughtful, I found it genuinely moving.
Next is Natalie Grabow, an 80-year-old triathlete who just finished the Ironman World Championship. It’s an absolutely incredible feat, many athletes far younger didn’t complete this grueling race. It’s 227 kilometers of biking, swimming, and running in the heat and humidity of Kona, Hawaii. She’s truly showing what’s possible in terms of health span. Here’s a short podcast about her accomplishment. (scroll down to find Bonus Episode: The Limitless Human: 80-Year-Old Ironman)
Finally, I’ve always loved Dolly Parton. She’s one of the best country songwriters ever, and who didn’t love her in 9 to 5 or Steel Magnolias?
Dolly is also a philanthropist and a philosopher. In a recent interview she said something that really stuck with me, at 79 she’s “just getting started” and she “doesn’t have time to get old.” She also says she feels comfortable in her own skin, “no matter how far I’ve stretched it.” 😂 What is your favourite Dolly Parton quote?
And what women are you inspired by? Let me know in the comments below!
Hey you! Thanks for this and your honesty. It’s scary to make big changes and it’s worth it! If you ever want to chat about moving call me.
I watched the assemble as well and really loved the Jann Arden episode.
Looking forward to Mexico.
John and I are busy in our studios and with community involvement. I’m taking Two courses right now, Herbal Pharmacy and Fibre art sculpture. Life is pretty great.
Love you!

There are two people in my life that give me so much inspiration – my two daughters. I have created people that live for the moment. Both are incredibly creative artists who take each day as it comes. They work extremely hard, not for the money, but for the joys they find after the work day is over. They don’t listen to the news and all of the negativity in this world. They stay focussed on the now, and what they can do to keep themselves mentally healthy. At the same time they are caring, giving people who want the best for humanity.
Growing up, as a young parent, I was often rattled by how much there was to do. Rushing around, thinking life was about working long hours and having strict routines. No time set aside for me and my wants and needs.
Now, as I watch them, I am truly inspired by what life should look like. How important it is to take care of number 1.
Too late? No. I am slowly learning now….to follow in their footsteps. Little did I know!
I love this so much!
