Growing older is inevitable, feeling old is optional.

I am approaching my 60th birthday and I have honestly never been as strong or felt as good.

I started doing yoga when I was in my twenties and I loved it. It gave me some tools to deal with anxiety, stress and some other mental health struggles. It felt good for me physically and I took my studies seriously.

Somewhere around 50 I began to feel some aches and pains and honestly I was feeling weaker and not as interested in doing the same old poses. I started to seek out other forms of movement- kettlebell training, pilates, calisthenics, natural movement and more. I got excited again about the my own potential. Could I still progress at my age instead of start to decline?

The last 9 years have shown me I can get stronger, more physically capable and even more mobile and agile than I have ever been.

I no longer had have those aches and pains much anymore and I can feel a big change in my confidence.

I still use my movement practice for my mental as well as my physical health and I still use yoga and stretching as a way to relax and recover. But yoga is not the best way to get stronger and so I have fully embraced resistance training in all it’s forms.

I have taken all the tools I have learned in the last 20 years of teaching yoga and combined it with my recent studies in strength and conditioning and made a comprehensive program that works for me and for my students. Movement and yoga is a source of sanity, clarity and peace for me and I have become stronger and more physically confident as I age.

I understand how time can get away from you and suddenly you realize your own health has taken a back seat. How it can feel like an injury or pain makes exercise just too difficult. I know how hard it is to have hope sometimes, so I give my students the pep talk I needed (and still need) to hear.

You are not too old and it is not too late!

Start a place that is right for you and just keep taking that next step. Getting older is inevitable, feeling older is optional.

If you have tried yoga or pilates but want to learn more functional movements like getting up and down off the floor without hands, my Wednesday mobility class is for you.

If you want to build more muscle and tone, try my Saturday class where we use resistance bands in a yoga class format to turn up the burn and intensity.

If you love to cultivate that awareness of body and breath and love a good stretch, then my Monday class is perfect for you.

Put all three of them in your week and I guarantee you will feel amazing. 🙂

Join me in class.

“Kathy!  I have to say that the shoulder cars that we did this morning have lessened my chronic shoulder pain!  I noticed almost immediately that it wasn’t bothering me so much and I’ve hardly thought of my shoulder all day!  You said you would share the class so I’m wondering if you could send me it and I’ll try to do those shoulder movements regularly. ”

Thanks so much.
