This month I have three things that share a loose common theme – travel and being away from home.

I have recently been traveling and my first favorite thing is one of the places I have just been. It is the city of Guanajuato in Mexico.

I went there with a group tour and I fell in love with the place. It is located in central Mexico about 4-5 hours outside of Mexico city. The city historic center and the adjacent mines were proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. When the mines (silver and gold) were operating during the colonial period it was one of Mexico’s richest cites and the architecture is stunning. It is built in a valley so the streets are narrow and the hills steep. There a a series of tunnels in the city that were built to prevent flooding but are now used as roadways. And of course there are the famous mummies!

My second favorite thing this month is the drawing tour I went on – lead by Mark Vazquez-Mackay and his wife Carmen. Their tours are really good and very reasonably priced. Even if you are not an artist (like me) you will see any place you go and draw in a completely different and enriched way. I noticed colors, textures and details I would not have noticed before. They are going to El Salvador next (Carmen was born there). It is going to be a magical trip although I can’t make it this time I plan to go in the future! Check that trip out here

The third thing that has captured my interest this month is a TV series that has been available for a while, but I recently discovered during a plane journey and became instantly captivated – “Ted Lasso.” The show revolves around a man working away from home and it exudes optimism and sweetness. Notably, it portrays a strong female friendship alongside its primary focus on male characters. These characters, for the most part, exhibit a blend of leadership, sensitivity, virility, and vulnerability. As I get near the conclusion of the series, I find myself wishing it didn’t have to end!

If you have seen the show, who is your favorite character? Let me know in the comments!
